Ulmus crassifolia (Nutt.) is a resilient tree that thrives in moist to dry, alkaline soils and adapts well to various soil types. Preferring medium water use, it flourishes in part shade. Cedar Elm is an excellent choice for providing shade and adding fall color to the landscape with its vivid yellow foliage. Its small leaves compost easily, and it supports wildlife by providing food and cover for birds and insects. The tree also serves as a larval host for Mourning Cloak and Question Mark butterflies.
